Sending us your home page with WS_FTP is a bit more complex than useing Netscape Composer because you must have already prepared your page in another program and you must be sure all of your images are linked correctly. Although this isn't the easiest way to put your page on our server, here are instructions for getting it here. If you don't already have WS_FTP, you can download it by clicking here.
First off, you will need to open WS_FTP and set up a new user account with our system's information and with your personal information contained in it.
When you open WS_FTP you should see a screen like this, if you don't
then you will need to press the 'Connect' button and you will.![]() |
Once you are at this screen, you need to press the New button and type in 'My Home Page' for the Profile Name, 'ftp' in the Host Name/Address field, leave the Host Type set as 'Automatic detect', set your personal user name in the 'User ID' field, and type your password in the 'Password' field. Once you have completed this screen, you can press the 'OK' button to connect to your web space. |
| Now you are ready to send your page to your space on our server. All you need to do is find the "index.htm" file you want to be your home page and any graphics or branching pages you need in order for your web page to view properly and press the right arrow. You can select all these files at once by holding down the <Ctrl> key on your keyboard (this is the key located below the shift keys) while you left click your files. If your main page is not currently named "index.htm" or "index.html" then you will need to rename them before or after you send by highlighting your main page and pressing the "Rename" button in the proper box. | ![]() |
Your screen should look like this after you have sent your page and graphics.
The files you send will be in your right window and your local files is
on the left.![]() |
If any files did not send, they won't be in this list and you can scroll through the log at the bottom of the program window to find out why. Note that you only have 500k of web space and once you have used all of it you won't be able to send anything else. To delete old files off our system, all you need to do is highlight the file in the "Remote System" area and press the "Delete" button. To see how much space you have left on our server, just look in the log window after sending a file. The person in this picture has 499Kbytes of space remaining (of 500Kbytes). |
That's all there is to sending your web page to us. You need to keep in mind that your html files (or your web documents) may need to be modified in order to keep them working properly if you have images or other pages you have published linked to your main page. The best way to keep this from happening is to create all your web pages in one directory on your hard disk and not put the path in their file names when you place them on your page.
